HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE) TRAINING FOR NEPZA TECHNICAL SUPPORT STAFF


The ACCI Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre successfully concluded a comprehensive 3-day Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Training for 43 staff of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) at Kariya Hotel, Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Designed to strengthen workplace safety awareness and emergency response capabilities, the training equipped participants with practical skills in hazard identification, risk prevention, fire safety, first aid, environmental responsibility, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, simulations, practical drills, and interactive discussions, participants gained valuable knowledge applicable to their daily work environments.
A major highlight of the programme was the emphasis on practical learning. Participants took part in PPE handling exercises, fire safety demonstrations, emergency evacuation drills, CPR and first aid practical sessions, as well as workplace hazard identification activities. These exercises provided participants with the confidence and competence required to respond effectively to workplace incidents and emergencies while promoting safer work practices.
The training also explored environmental safety and sustainability, emphasizing waste management, workplace cleanliness, and the importance of maintaining safe and healthy work environments. Participants were encouraged to take an active role in identifying and reporting hazards, preventing accidents, and fostering a culture of safety within their respective units.
The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training. Feedback received at the end of the programme reflected a high level of satisfaction, with participants commending the practical and engaging nature of the sessions and the relevance of the knowledge gained to their professional responsibilities.
